Terror Returns to Kwara: Gunmen Ambush Food Buyers, Kill Two in Ifelodun Community

Fresh waves of fear have swept across Kwara State following another deadly attack in Ifelodun Local Government Area, where suspected terrorists reportedly killed two residents in a brutal ambush, underscoring the worsening security crisis in the state.

Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that the attack took place along the Babanla–Oreke road, a route frequently used by locals. The victims were said to be on a routine errand—purchasing food supplies for members of their community—when armed men suddenly emerged and opened fire.

What should have been a simple act of service ended in bloodshed.

Gruesome Discovery at the Scene

Footage later obtained by SaharaReporters showed a disturbing scene: two motionless bodies lying in pools of blood, while local vigilantes and officers of the Nigeria Police Force stood nearby, examining the area and attempting to secure the location.

Residents described the atmosphere as tense and heartbreaking, saying the attack has further shattered any sense of safety in the community.

Rising Insecurity Fuels Fear

In recent months, Kwara State has witnessed a sharp rise in violent attacks, kidnappings, and armed incursions, particularly in rural areas. Despite repeated assurances from authorities, many residents say fear now dictates daily life, with movement restricted and farming activities reduced due to safety concerns.

The latest killings have renewed calls for stronger security measures, improved intelligence gathering, and greater protection for vulnerable communities.

Troubling Backdrop of Earlier Arrests

The attack comes against the backdrop of earlier reports that Nigerian soldiers arrested suspected bandits in Ifelodun, allegedly found patrolling with AK-47 rifles in a security patrol vehicle. That incident had already raised alarm among residents about how deeply insecurity may have penetrated local structures.

As investigations into the latest killings continue, families mourn, communities remain on edge, and questions grow louder about how these attacks persist.
