Uriel Oputa, a former housemate of Big Brother Naija All-Stars, explained why she chose not to use her mother’s dementia as a strategy during her time on the reality show. In an interview on Channels TV’s Rubbin’ Minds, Uriel revealed that she didn’t want to appear as if she was seeking sympathy votes or support by highlighting her mother’s condition. She believed that using her mother’s situation in that way would have been too predictable and might have overshadowed her other talents and attributes.

Uriel shared that she had spent ten years of her life being a caregiver for her mother, and while she did talk about her struggles, she chose not to bring her mother’s condition front and center in the Big Brother House. Uriel wanted to showcase her various talents and abilities, such as cooking, fitness, and singing, which she discovered during her time on the show. She saw it as a fresh start to let people see different aspects of her personality beyond her role as a caregiver.
