Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has given the green light for the disbursement of N5 billion in promotion arrears to workers in the state. The announcement was made during an impromptu visit by the Governor to the Professor Chike Edozien secretariat in Asaba.

Governor Oborevwori stated that the payment of the promotion arrears would be made in three installments. The disbursement is scheduled to begin in August and conclude in October 2023. He emphasized that he had already signed the necessary memo authorizing the payment.

The approval came in response to the workers’ demands prior to the gubernatorial election in the state. Governor Oborevwori assured them during his campaign that he would address their request once in office, and he fulfilled this promise by approving the funds for the promotion arrears.

During his visit, the Governor reiterated his commitment to fulfilling his promises outlined in his MORE agenda, which aims to cater to the welfare and development of all Deltans. He acknowledged the substantial amount involved (almost N5 billion) and acknowledged the significant impact this payment would have on the state’s finances.

Governor Oborevwori also encouraged the workers to continue their hard work and dedication to the state’s interests. He thanked them for their support and cautioned them not to take their work lightly. Additionally, he stressed that future visits may be unannounced, signaling his hands-on approach to overseeing the functioning of government offices.

The approval of the N5 billion promotion arrears reflects the state government’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding the efforts of its workers and enhancing their motivation and productivity.
