In the town of Itanrin, in the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria, a 32-year-old man named Samson Sikiru, who is reportedly a drug addict, allegedly strangled his mother to death. The incident occurred on Sunday, and the suspect’s younger brother, who works as a night guard, raised the alarm after discovering their mother’s lifeless body upon returning from his night duty. Neighbors, realizing that Samson was responsible for the murder, apprehended him and handed him over to the police.
According to sources, Samson had a history of drug addiction and had left home five years ago before recently returning. The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun, Omotola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect is currently a neuropsychiatric patient. It was also revealed that the family occasionally tied him down with ropes to prevent him from harming himself or others.
Preliminary investigations indicate that on the day of the incident, Samson was restrained in the house but managed to free himself and attack his mother, strangling her to death. Marks of violence were found on the deceased’s neck, along with lacerations on her right leg, suggesting the use of force.
As of now, Samson Sikiru remains in police custody, but he has not provided coherent answers to the questions posed to him by the authorities. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
