Uzodimma: Fulfilling the Aspiration of Imo People through the Conversion of Alvan Ikoku College of Education into a University

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, expressed the significance of the conversion of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri into a university, stating that it holds great importance for the people of Imo.

According to Governor Uzodimma, the people of Imo State not only support the upgrade but also feel a sense of excitement about it.

The governor recalled receiving two letters from the federal government, one approving the establishment of a Federal University Teaching Hospital in Owerri and the other endorsing the conversion of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education into Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education. He shared the overwhelming joy and enthusiasm among the people of Imo when he shared the good news with them.

Governor Uzodimma assured the assessment team that the government and people of Imo State are fully committed to ensuring a seamless implementation of the upgrade. They are prepared to provide all necessary support and resources in line with the team’s assessment.

The team leader, Dr. Mrs. Uche Uba, a director from the Federal Ministry of Education, explained that their visit to Imo State aims to conduct a comprehensive audit of the current status of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education. This audit will encompass the examination of physical and academic structures, as well as any other factors that will contribute to and support the successful upgrade of the institution.
