Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo has taken decisive action in response to the recent UTME incident involving Mmesomma Joy Ejikeme. In a letter addressed to the Principal of Anglican Girls Secondary School Nnewi, Soludo has instructed that Mmesomma be placed under the care of the State Guidance Counselor and a distinguished Professor of Clinical Psychology.
As part of his comprehensive approach, the governor has also mandated the immediate implementation of psychological counseling and therapy sessions for Mmesomma. This comes after her admission on July 6, 2023, that she had manipulated the falsified results she had been presenting.
The directive, conveyed through a letter signed by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, aligns with one of the recommendations made by the committee established by the Anambra State Government to thoroughly investigate the matter. The revelation of the fake results had caused significant public interest, controversy, and concerns.
By emphasizing the importance of counseling and therapy, Governor Soludo aims to provide Mmesomma with the necessary support and guidance to address the underlying issues surrounding her actions. This approach recognizes the significance of psychological well-being and aims to foster personal growth and development in the student.
It is expected that these measures will contribute to Mmesomma’s rehabilitation and serve as a valuable lesson for the wider community. Governor Soludo’s actions demonstrate a commitment to understanding the complexities of the situation and implementing appropriate support systems for the individuals involved.
