LIONEL MESSI is the ‘best player to ever put on a pair of boots’, Barcelona and Tottenham great Gary Lineker believes.

Messi’s Barca are in north London for their Champions League Group B blockbuster with Tottenham this evening.

The Argentine maestro will no doubt have a major part to play at Wembley as the La Liga giants look to see off Spurs.

Lineker enjoyed a prolific career with both Barcelona and Tottenham during his playing days and will have split loyalties going into tonight’s clash.

But the England legend is in no doubt about who he’s most exciting about watching under the famous Wembley arch with Messi in town.

Lineker told Barca TV: “He is the best player to ever put on a pair of boots.

“It’s as if he sees the game from afar, at the same time as he is playing. He is not human.

“He never rises to provocation, and he is a great example to both the world of football and to every young person who plays the sport.”

Messi, who was rested at the weekend in preparation for Barca’s Wembley trip, starts in attack tonight.

Arthur Melo is also in Ernesto Valverde’s line-up while Clement Lenglet replaces the suspended Samuel Umtiti.

For Tottenham, Harry Winks has been thrust into Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham side.

With Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Mousa Dembele all out injured, Winks and Victor Wanyama have been chosen in midfield with Eric Dier dropping to the bench.

Winks has started just one Premier League match this season but Pochettino has turned to the youngster just as he did when Spurs beat Real Madrid last season.

Captain Hugo Lloris returns in goal having missed the past six games after injuring his thigh against Manchester United in August.
