Strengthening Collaboration for Made-in-Nigeria Helicopter: NASENI and AFIT Join Forces
The National Agency for Science and Engineering (NASENI) is forging a robust partnership with the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Kaduna, to facilitate the establishment of the permanent site of the Aeronautics and Air Vehicle Development Institute (AAVDI), an Institute falling under NASENI’s purview and currently situated within the AFIT Complex in Kaduna.
During a courtesy visit by the new Commandant of AFIT, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) S.L. Rabe, NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Bashir Gwandu, emphasized the significance of collaborating with the Air Force and the military, given their involvement in critical projects championed by AFIT. This cooperation holds great importance for the agency and the nation as a whole.
The primary objective behind establishing the helicopter and AAVDI is to foster Nigeria’s self-reliance in aviation technology. It entails the local manufacturing of helicopter components and other aircraft produced by NASENI. Additionally, the collaboration aims to provide training opportunities for individuals to acquire skills in component production. NASENI has been actively exploring various aircraft components and their potential for penetration within the industry.
By consolidating their efforts, NASENI and AFIT seek to empower Nigeria’s aviation sector and bolster the country’s technological capabilities, ultimately promoting indigenous advancements in aviation technology.
