Davido Faces Criticism for Controversial Music Video

Afrobeats sensation David Adeleke, better known as Davido, found himself embroiled in a social media storm on Saturday after sharing a video on Twitter that some of his followers perceived as disrespectful to Islam.

In the video, a group of men wearing white ‘jalamiya’ attire were initially seen engaged in prayer. However, the scene took an unexpected turn as they transitioned into dancing.

The reactions that followed were scathing, with many netizens expressing their outrage, considering it an affront to the Islamic religion by the singer.

One such critic, Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, expressed his disapproval, highlighting that Muslims hold prayer (Salah) sacred as one of the five pillars of Islam, and it is not to be mixed with jokes or ridicule.

Twitter users echoed similar sentiments, demanding that Davido take down the video and show respect for the Muslim community.

The video’s portrayal of Islamic religious practices was widely condemned as ignorant and disrespectful, with some calling for an apology from both Davido and his signee, logosori, featured in the video.

The incident has sparked a debate on the responsibility of celebrities and the potential impact of their actions on societal cohesion and harmony in Nigeria.
