UNILAG Confirms Hike in Fees, Effective September 1

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has announced an adjustment in the obligatory fees for both new and returning students of the institution, with effect from September 1. This decision was reached after careful deliberations with various stakeholders, including students, parents/guardians, staff unions, and alumni.

The university management explained that the upward review of fees was necessary due to prevailing economic realities and the need to meet its obligations to students, staff, and service providers. It was also emphasized that UNILAG had not increased its obligatory fees in recent years.

A breakdown of the fees indicates that new undergraduate students will pay N126,325 for courses without laboratory/studio, while those with laboratory and studio will pay N176,325 for one academic session.

Returning students, on the other hand, will be required to pay N100,750 for courses without laboratory and studio, and N140,250 for courses with laboratory and studio for one academic year or session.

Medical students are subject to mandatory charges of N190,250, and all undergraduate students are required to pay utility charges of N20,000. Additionally, final year students will be charged a total of N30,000.

Charges for field trips, where they are a mandatory requirement for the course of study, will be determined as needed.

The university management sought the understanding and support of students and other stakeholders, assuring them of its commitment to providing the best learning experience possible.
