Disagreement Turns Fatal as 54-Year-Old Man Fatally Beats His Lover in Calabar

A tragic incident unfolded in Calabar on Tuesday evening, as a heated altercation between two lovers resulted in the death of 34-year-old Ms Esther Ndereke. She was allegedly beaten to death by her older lover, 54-year-old Nkeruewen Etuk, during their argument.
According to reports, the incident took place at 32 Abasi Obori Street, Calabar South LGA, where a violent encounter led to the unfortunate loss of Ms Ndereke’s life.
Investigations revealed that on the evening of July 18, 2023, the couple had a disagreement, which quickly escalated into a horrifying turn of events. Eyewitnesses, who preferred to remain anonymous, described a distressing scene that unfolded around 7:30 p.m. at 32 Abasi Obori Street.
“While the exact details of the altercation remain unclear, we heard loud noises emanating from the couple’s residence, indicating an intense argument filled with anger and despair,” said one witness.
“In a matter of moments, the dispute turned violent, with Mr. Etuk unleashing a relentless barrage of brutal blows on Ms. Ndereke in their shared room. The assault left Ms. Ndereke severely battered, bearing the painful marks of the attack,” the witness added.
As a result of the assault, Ms. Ndereke collapsed and fell into a coma. She was immediately rushed to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), where medical professionals confirmed her death. Her body has been deposited in the hospital’s morgue pending a comprehensive autopsy to determine the exact cause of her untimely demise.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the tragic incident and assured that swift action has been taken. The Uwanse Divisional Police Officer promptly responded to the scene, and the suspect, Mr. Nkeruewen Etuk, is now in custody.
“We are following proper protocols, and the lifeless body of Ms. Ndereke awaits a thorough autopsy to establish the exact cause of death,” SP Ugbo stated. “Meanwhile, we will ensure that the suspect faces the full weight of justice for his alleged actions.”
This incident serves as a grim reminder of the consequences of domestic violence and the urgent need for society to address and prevent such acts, promoting respect, safety, and empathy within relationships.
