The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed that one of its trainer aircraft crashed in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State.
The incident occurred on Friday evening while the aircraft was engaged in a routine training exercise.
In a statement issued on Friday by Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force, it was revealed that the FT-7NI trainer aircraft crashed at approximately 4:15 pm during the training exercise. Fortunately, both pilots on board successfully ejected from the aircraft and survived.
The statement further mentioned that there were no casualties or damage to property in the vicinity of the crash site.
Currently, both pilots are receiving medical observation at the NAF Base Hospital in Makurdi. In response to the incident, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has established a Board of Inquiry to investigate and determine the immediate and underlying cause of the crash.
