Death Toll Rises to 30 in Attack on Benue Communities

In the attack on Akpuuna and Diom communities in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, the death toll has now reached 30. The attack, carried out by armed men on motorbikes, resulted in the brutal killing of 24 individuals and left several others seriously injured. The assailants also set fire to the local market and numerous houses in the area.

Mr. Kartyo Tyoumbur, the Chairman of Ukum council, confirmed the increased casualty figure and expressed his sorrow over the incident. He mentioned that more bodies were discovered in the bush, and some of the severely injured victims succumbed to their injuries. Tyoumbur called for prayers to prevent any further loss of life among the injured.

Governor Hyacinth Alia condemned the unprovoked attack and the loss of innocent lives, emphasizing his disappointment and heartbreak. The governor assured the swift response of the state government and urged calm in the affected communities. He also encouraged residents to provide security agencies with any useful information that could help combat insecurity in the area.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) also condemned the attack and pledged to ensure that those responsible face justice. The party called on security agencies to collaborate with the government in maintaining law and order and apprehending all culprits, thereby setting an example as a deterrent to future incidents.
