The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Asaba, Delta State, has admitted documents tendered by Chief Kenneth Gbagi, the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), as evidence against the governorship election in the state. The three-man panel, led by Justice C. J. Ahuchaogu, accepted the evidence presented by Gbagi’s lead counsel, Mr. Magaji Ibrahim (SAN). Ibrahim argued that the election was marred by irregularities, electoral malpractices, and non-compliance with the Electoral Act of 2022. The counsel for the respondents expressed their objections, but the tribunal ruled that they had given their consent for the documents to be tendered. The tribunal adjourned the hearing to July 19 and 20 for further proceedings on the petition.
