The UNWomen has called on President Bola Tinubu to ensure 50% female representation in his upcoming appointments for ministers, heads of agencies, and parastatals. The call was made by Beatrice Eyong, the UNWomen Country Representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS, during the ReportHer Awards event in Lagos. The UNWomen emphasized that gender equality and women empowerment are essential for achieving sustainable development goals and reducing poverty. Eyong urged the media to engage with the government and political parties to promote gender-responsive policies and laws, while Motunrayo Alaka, Executive Director of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism, also called for gender equality in public office appointments.
