The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged President Bola Tinubu not to yield to pressure from certain individuals aiming to empower former governor Nyesom Wike and take control of the party in the state. According to the party, recognizing Wike would undermine the loyalty of dedicated APC members who have remained faithful to the party.
In an open letter to President Tinubu dated July 6th, the APC chapter in Rivers state warned him to be cautious of Wike and his associates, emphasizing that Wike’s current claims of supporting the party are an attempt to undermine loyal APC members and stakeholders.
The party highlighted the brutality faced by APC members and their families during the 2015 presidential election in Rivers state, asserting that Wike led aggression against innocent party members while the Rivers APC resisted.
The chapter urged Tinubu, known for his commitment to party growth and reward for service, to resist Wike’s influence, as Wike lacks a consistent political ideology and is seen as a promoter of political thuggery.
The Rivers APC expressed confidence that Tinubu’s leadership would prevent those engaging in destabilizing tactics and seeking to exploit party politics from hijacking the party in Rivers state, which they perceive as a valuable commodity.
